Fjord fish
First cycle, grade school
This activity’s main objective is exploring the
different species of fish living in the Saguenay
Fjord and the Ha! Ha! Bay. Students are invited
to create a collective mural painting starring
their discoveries.
Dive into the fjord!
Second cycle, grade school
The Dive into the Fjord activity allows students
to set off and discover a fascinating and little-known
world: that of deep-water invertebrates who’ve found
shelter in the Saguenay Fjord and the Ha! Ha! Bay.
Students will create a very special encyclopaedia
dealing with animals as strange as they
are spectacular.
A valley unlike any other
Third cycle, grade school
Who hasn’t dreamt of stepping into the shoes
of a scientific reporter? In this special activity,
students will join in producing a report worthy
of the world’s greatest scientific magazines:
Geo, National Geographic, Space… They will
showcase the exceptional nature of Saguenay
Fjord and the Ha! Ha! Bay.
The Microfjord
First cycle, high school
What lies hidden in a handful of mud, or in
a sample of water? To find out, students will
have to become scientists for a day, and explore
the fjord in an exceptional manner. The microscopic
world will reveal itself to their eyes and, weather
permitting, they will be able to collect the
organisms that will be studied.

The spoken culture
First grade-school cycle
Anecdotes to learn more about the Jarnigoine
exhibit? Well, why not? After a visit to the
exhibit, students will be asked to choose
anecdotes and to tell them to their classmates
through role plays. Costumes and scenery
elements will liven each presentation.
Material culture
Second grade-school cycle
It would seem a collector sleeps within
each and every one of us… With this as
a starting point, students will be asked
to wonder about the numerous artefacts
presented in the Jarnigoine exhibit. After
having selected objects and exchanged them,
the students will be given the responsibility
of furnishing yesteryear's living spaces: the
parish priest's office, the lumberjack's cabin,
grandmother's kitchen…
Historical culture
Third grade-school cycle
Beyond the anecdotes and the artefacts,
Jarnigoine reveals a historical discourse.
What is it? What does it bring to the fore?
Does it leave anything behind? Students will
have to answer these and many other questions.
Exploring artefacts and didactic texts will afford
them numerous opportunities to discuss the
proposed historical presentation.
Museological culture
First high-school cycle
Even in the Internet era, a museum exhibit
remains an exceptional communications tools.
What is the secret? How does it manage,
by combining artefacts and didactic texts,
to spread knowledge in a dynamic and original
manner? Such questions deserve answers.
These young people will, for the duration of
their visit, become true apprentice museologists.
Pedagogic manuals for our temporary
exhibits are available on demand,
(418) 697-5077 ext. 25.
