Uglies: When ugliness becomes a masterpiece!
Exhibition for rent
Gummy, soggy, wrinkly, or just downright ugly: although nature has not blessed them with beauty in our eyes, certain species still attract our curiosity. Questioning their appearance teaches us to see them differently and understand their uniqueness. Even if they might seem hideous at first, these animals play an essential role in our ecosystems because they contribute to biodiversity.
Their surprising characteristics encourage us to rethink our perceptions and question the criteria that define ugliness, including those we apply to ourselves and others.
The exhibition will explain how our relationship with “ugly animals” has evolved and what historical and cultural factors may be behind our disdain and phobia of certain species. Humor and science come together in this original exhibition!
A creation of the Musée du Fjord made possible thanks to the financial support of the Government of Quebec.
