As emblems of the boreal forest, cervids have been part of Canada’s natural heritage and ecology since time immemorial. Moose, caribou, elk and deer are intrinsically linked the history of our country. These animals still represent an indisputable living cultural heritage for Indigenous people. From coast to coast, cervids have also been a staple for settler survival and remain an essential part of our economy today. Given the historic and current economic and conservation issues, raising awareness among Canadians on the importance of deer herd and wilderness preservation is key for both present and future generations.
